Berkshire Hathaway reported net income of $25.667 billion for the second quarter of 2026, a 119% increase from the $10.106 billion posted in the first quarter. Investment gains of $10.9 billion drove the bulk of this performance, reversing a stretch of negative results on that line. CEO Greg Abel, who took the helm in January 2026, continued the company’s aggressive acquisition strategy, completing the takeover of homebuilder Taylor Morrison and Occidental Petroleum’s chemicals unit OxyChem for $9.7 billion, while investing $10 billion in Alphabet in June. Operating earnings climbed 18% year-over-year, underscoring the strength of Berkshire’s diversified businesses spanning insurance, railroads, utilities, manufacturing, and retail.
