US Treasury’s OFAC sanctions 2 Iran-linked crypto exchanges

The US Treasury’s OFAC has sanctioned two cryptocurrency exchanges (Shelbit and Aban Tether) and Iranian national Siavash Kayvanpour for facilitating the laundering of $5 million in digital assets for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the Treasury, IRGC-controlled wallets transferred over $1 million in cryptocurrency to addresses tied to Shelbit, while Kayvanpour’s wallets sent $2 million to Nobitex, an Iranian exchange blacklisted by Washington in June. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the department would continue to increase economic pressure on Iran. In June, the US Treasury also froze $131 million in wallets linked to Iran.
