Bybit wins injunction to freeze crypto linked to North Korea hack

Bybit secured a preliminary injunction from a federal judge freezing crypto assets in wallets linked to the February 2025 hack, in which North Korean state-sponsored hackers allegedly stole approximately $1.5 billion in Ethereum. The exchange filed a civil lawsuit against North Korea, its intelligence arm the Reconnaissance General Bureau, and the Lazarus Group. The legal action aims to create authority to freeze and seize assets wherever they surface, in cooperation with other platforms and US authorities. North Korean state-sponsored hackers have stolen a cumulative $6.75 billion in cryptocurrency assets, according to Chainalysis.
