Dogecoin community contributor Mishaboar has warned about overlooked risks associated with hardware wallets, clarifying that these devices store access keys rather than the coins themselves, meaning any compromised hardware directly threatens funds. The common belief that creating a wallet offline guarantees security has been debunked: malware already present on the system can intercept the seed phrase during generation and send it to hackers as soon as the computer reconnects to the internet. Mishaboar recommends three essential measures: diversifying devices across transparent and reputable brands, adding a passphrase to the standard seed phrase, and keeping physical backups strictly offline. He also warns against moving funds to exchanges, citing the principle « not your keys, not your crypto » and the risks of bankruptcy or hacking platforms face.
