The White House is reportedly preparing new restrictions targeting Chinese-made data center components used in AI infrastructure. According to Reuters, these rules would prohibit US imports of new models of Chinese optical transceivers used in AI data centers. The Federal Communications Commission is developing these proposals, expected to be announced before the end of the year. US officials are concerned that these fiber-optic components, which connect AI chips inside data centers, could be exploited to steal sensitive information, install malicious software, or disrupt operations. China’s embassy in Washington stated that Beijing would take all necessary measures in response to these actions.
