Mastercard has completed the acquisition of BVNK, a digital asset payment infrastructure, for up to 1.8 billion dollars, consisting of 1.5 billion in initial price and up to 300 million in conditional payments. Founded in 2021, BVNK enables banks, fintechs and businesses to hold, convert and transfer traditional currencies as well as stablecoins in over 130 countries, with annualized volume exceeding 30 billion dollars. This acquisition aims to connect traditional payment rails to blockchains, targeting B2B payments, international transfers and treasury management. Mastercard thus acquires a gateway already used by its competitor Visa, which had invested in BVNK in 2025. For current BVNK clients, nothing changes in the short term: same teams, same products and same integrations.
