Search engines fix Claude leak but Perplexity users’ files still online

Search engines Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo have de-indexed a major leak of personal data from Anthropic’s Claude interface after thousands of client files, conversations and sensitive information were mistakenly indexed. However, the same search engines have not de-indexed a similar leak concerning Perplexity users, another AI service valued at 20 billion dollars with tens of millions of active users. The problem stems from the fact that creating shareable links did not warn users that their content would be indexed by search engines, lacking no-index tags or other privacy-preserving protocols. This is not the first time such leaks have occurred: OpenAI encountered a similar problem in July 2025 with shared ChatGPT conversations.
