Lawsuit claims BitMEX used server freezes and internal trading to seize 622 Bitcoin ahead of its September closure

BitMEX customers have filed a class action seeking the return of 622.66 Bitcoin allegedly lost through manipulated liquidations between 2018 and 2020. The complaint, filed July 23 in the Southern District of New York, accuses the platform of triggering premature liquidations and operating an internal trading desk that could view customer positions and trade during server outages that locked out regular users. BitMEX denies the allegations, calling the lawsuit spurious and opportunistic, and says it will defend itself vigorously. The exchange, whose operator HDR Global Trading Limited obtained a regulator-approved wind-down plan, is set to cease operations on September 23.
