Nvidia is reportedly in discussions to provide a financing guarantee of approximately $250 billion to OpenAI to enable the latter to rent massive computing capacity. This funding is part of a 10-gigawatt data center project developed by SoftBank’s energy subsidiary in southern Ohio, with a total cost exceeding $500 billion. Nvidia is separately negotiating the financing of chip purchases for OpenAI, worth an additional $350 billion. For OpenAI, this agreement would represent a step toward controlling its own infrastructure rather than renting from Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle. Negotiations, at an early stage according to Bloomberg, could still fail or see their terms evolve, with other players such as Anthropic, Microsoft and Google also expressing interest.
