The US Supreme Court invalidated, in a 6-3 ruling, the tariffs imposed on Canada, Mexico, and China under the IEEPA law. This February 20, 2026 decision ended tariffs that had generated over $130 billion in revenue before being struck down. In response, the Trump administration announced in July 2026 new duties ranging from 10% to 12.5% targeting approximately 60 economies, this time relying on Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. These new taxes, effective July 23-24, 2026, target economies accused of human rights violations in their manufacturing processes. Bitcoin briefly rose by approximately 2% to surpass $68,000 following the Supreme Court ruling, with digital asset market capitalization reaching approximately $2.38 trillion.
