Crise agricole et tokenisation : les vaches servent de collatéral au Brésil

Share

Ten dairy cows from Fazenda Engenho Viejo, in the state of Paraná, have become the first tokenized animals to guarantee a financing contract registered on B3, the São Paulo Stock Exchange. Equipped with AI-powered connected collars, these ten animals valued at 120,000 reais are backing a rural credit loan of 100,000 reais (approximately $19,420), representing a collateral ratio of 120%. Cowmed’s technology enables lenders to monitor the herd in real time, eliminating the uncertainty associated with traditional livestock valuation, for which banks apply discounts of up to 60%. The context is urgent: Brazilian agribusiness filed 1,990 judicial recovery requests in 2025, nearly four times the 534 filed in 2023, driven by high interest rates, falling agricultural prices and climate shocks. Cowmed already monitors 100,000 cows across 1,200 farms in six countries, with a combined value estimated at 2 billion reais, of which 400 million reais could be pledged as tokenized collateral within two years.
