Pep Guardiola turns down Italy national team job, choosing sabbatical over €20M-per-year offer

Pep Guardiola has officially declined the offer to become Italy’s national team head coach. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) initially proposed 10 million euros per year and explored financial structures to reach the 20 million euros annual fee demanded by the Spanish coach. Guardiola, who left Manchester City after ten years of dominance, refused to take at least one year of rest. This decision follows Italy’s failure to qualify for recent World Cups. Carlo Ancelotti is now mentioned as a potential alternative.
