Nifty Gateway, an NFT marketplace launched in 2020 and acquired by Gemini in 2019, has announced it will wind down operations. The platform played a central role in bringing NFTs to a mainstream audience by allowing credit card purchases, lowering the barrier to entry compared to other crypto-native platforms. At the height of the NFT frenzy in mid-2021, Nifty Gateway facilitated over $300 million in sales, notably through curated drops from high-profile artists such as Beeple and Grimes. In April 2024, the company had already rebranded as Nifty Gateway Studio to focus on onchain creative projects and brand partnerships. Gemini said the closure would allow the crypto exchange to sharpen its focus on its broader super app strategy, while continuing to support NFTs through the Gemini Wallet.
