Foundation, a major NFT platform on Ethereum launched in 2021, was acquired by Blackdove, a company specializing in digital art display technology. Following the operational control transfer, the situation deteriorated: shifted communication tone, declining community engagement, and increasing 404 errors. The acquisition then collapsed without public explanation, leaving the platform offline with no migration plan or recovery timeline. Jack Butcher, creator of Visualize Value, stepped in to preserve Foundation’s cultural history, while networked.art emerged as an alternative. This case illustrates persistent platform dependency risks in the NFT ecosystem: on-chain permanence does not guarantee accessibility or cultural continuity.
