GoPro announced a merger agreement with optical-photonics startup Starman Optical, which will acquire a 90% stake in the company for 285 million dollars in cash, or approximately 1.14 dollar per share. Existing shareholders will retain about 10% of the merged entity, which will continue trading on Nasdaq. GoPro shares surged more than 50% intraday, trading at around 1.33 dollars. GoPro holds more than 2,500 US patents in imaging, optics, and sensor technology, which will be repurposed for AI infrastructure markets. The company faced financial difficulties, with its auditors issuing a going concern warning in June 2026, and Starman will also assume responsibility for repaying its existing debt of approximately 92 million dollars.
