China’s Commerce Ministry rejected U.S. and European trade complaints, calling them an « excuse to pressure and restrict China. » Beijing was the sole G20 member to dissent from the joint statement, while also criticizing U.S. anti-Iran sanctions and warning France against its law targeting Chinese e-commerce platforms like Temu. The European Union has set an October deadline for Beijing to deliver « concrete results » to reduce its record trade deficit with China, or face « harsher measures. »
